Step 1: Clean the Bamboo Whisk

Begin by gently dipping your bamboo whisk (茶筅) into warm water. This removes dust and loosens its delicate tines for an optimal froth.

Step 2: Add the Matcha

Using your bamboo spoon (茶杓), scoop 1-2 grams (about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon) into the tea bowl (茶碗). This handcrafted spoon offers precision and an authentic touch.

Step 3: Add Hot Water

Heat about 60mL (2oz) of water to about 80°C or 176°F (not boiling). Carefully pour it into your bowl, preserving matcha’s nuanced flavor and vibrant green color.

Step 4: Whisk Vigorously

In brisk, “M” shaped motions, whisk the matcha. Introducing air yields a creamy foam and smooth consistency—hallmarks of a premium brew.
