This small ceramic sauce dish from Abay adds a quiet note of wabi-sabi beauty to the table. Sold one by one, it lets you choose a single statement colour or gather a personal palette for an eclectic setting.
Each palm-sized rectangle measures about 8 cm × 5 cm × 2 cm (3.1 in × 2.0 in × 0.8 in). The dish is formed from dense porcelain and coated with a reactive Tenmoku glaze that fires to moonlit black, warm russet, or occasional touches of indigo and ivory. Because the minerals flow unpredictably in the kiln, every piece has a pattern that is entirely its own.
The gently sloping sides keep soy sauce, ponzu, or chilli oil from spilling. Away from the table, the dish also works well as a salt cellar, a mise-en-place ramekin, or a place to rest jewellery by the sink.
The lead-free body carries CIQ food-safety certification and tolerates microwave, dishwasher, and oven use up to 200 °C. Each piece travels in shock-proof, recyclable cushioning so it arrives ready to serve or to give.
